Resolution Health Outlines Success in ''Personalizing Patient Messages to Induce Behavioral Change''

Posted on: Tuesday, 2 May 2006, 12:00 CDT

Recognizing that payers often face resistance, defiance, and sometimes rejection in their efforts to prompt patient behavioral change to improve healthcare outcomes, Earl P. Steinberg, MD, MPP, president and CEO of Resolution Health, Inc. (RHI), will present "Personalizing Patient Messages to Induce Behavioral Change" at the Disease Management Colloquium, May 11th, 4:15pm at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn's Landing (www.dmconferences.com/agenda/day2.html).

Dr. Steinberg's 45-minute presentation, scheduled for the Consumer Issues and Strategies in Disease Management track, will feature case study references that document the success of RHI's personalized patient-centric communications program. The targeted, one-on-one messaging educates, informs, guides, and incentivizes patients to modify their behavior to help improve their healthcare quality and outcomes, as well as reduce their out-of-pocket expenditures and the total benefit payers' cost of healthcare.

"Our interactive, patient- and physician-centric programs not only offer actionable information, but also provide much-needed guidance to encourage compliance with accepted evidence-based medical guidelines," explains Dr. Steinberg, a nationally known expert in evaluation and improvement of the quality and efficiency of healthcare. "These one-on-one communications programs are multi-step processes that leverage Resolution's sophisticated analytics to identify those in need of, and most receptive to, change."

Citing case study examples, Dr. Steinberg will delineate the components of RHI's effective personalized messaging programs to fuel behavioral change, including innovative methods to reduce medical and prescription co-payments; opportunities to stimulate discussions with physicians to improve care quality; patient- and condition-specific interventions to benefit clinical needs; and cost of healthcare services.

"Documented ROI substantiates that targeted patient identification, personalized messaging, incentives to change, and cyclical outreach empower patients with critical information and viable interventions that can lead to more responsible patient behavior, improved compliance with best medical practices, and more prudent spending on care," concludes Dr. Steinberg.

The Disease Management Colloquium presents case studies of disease management efforts in a variety of settings. The Colloquium explores the role of disease management as it affects Medicare, Medicaid, the commercially insured, and the under-and uninsured; the role of evidence-based medicine; the use of incentives for physician and consumers; new tools and techniques; innovations by health plans and disease management companies; and key legislative and policy issues affecting the future of disease management.
