Health Net of California, one of the state's largest health plans, is the newest health network provider for CalOptima, Orange County's Medi-Cal program. Health Net now covers approximately 17,000 former Universal Care members.
Health Net's participation in CalOptima is the result of its March 31, 2006, acquisition of the health plan assets of Universal Care, Inc., a Long Beach, Calif.-based health care company.
With the addition of Orange County, Health Net now serves more than 600,000 Medi-Cal members in 10 California counties. Orange County beneficiaries now may choose Health Net from among CalOptima's 11 health network providers that provide access to local doctors and hospitals.
"We are pleased to expand our Medi-Cal services into Orange County," said Stephen Lynch, president of Health Net of California. "We have a long and admirable record in serving Medi-Cal beneficiaries, and we look forward to providing Orange County beneficiaries with access to quality medical care."
