For Rosselli, whose expansive career includes serving as a healthcare worker and providing care for AIDS patients in their homes, being named Community Grand Marshal during the 25th anniversary of the first reported cases of AIDS by the Centers for Disease Control is especially meaningful. "I have seen this disease completely devastate families and communities, especially in San Francisco. And I have seen health care workers who unselfishly, unstintingly committed themselves to care for and advocate for those who were stricken. I am proud of the fact that SEIU healthcare workers were in the forefront of AIDS education in the early '80s and that the domestic partner benefits they fought for are now a standard in our contracts with hospitals in California. I invite all caregivers to join the parade and share this honor with me. I am proud to serve on their behalf," stated Rosselli.
Rosselli, a staunch advocate and leader in the fight for high quality and affordable healthcare for all Americans, was recently named by San Francisco Focus Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the Bay Area. He was also a pioneer in helping to secure domestic partner benefits for workers and has provided advocacy and support to make "Pride at Work" the voice for GLBT people in the workplace and in the labor movement. Rosselli is also a former member of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation Board of Directors.
In addition to serving as president of the 130,000 member UHW, Rosselli is a national vice president with SEIU International and co-chair of its healthcare division, which represents over 900,000 healthcare workers throughout the U.S. He is also president of the 615,000 member California State Council and serves as a vice president of the California Labor Federation of the AFL-CIO.
