FDA OK’s Ranbaxy’s Generic Adoxa

Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. has received U.S. approval to make and sell a generic version of Adoxa, an antibiotic.

The Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Generic Drugs has determined the Ranbaxy formulation to be bioequivalent and have the same therapeutic effect as Adoxa, RPI said Friday.

A unit of India’s Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., RPI expects to sell doxycycline pills in various strengths to treat respiratory tract and urinary tract infections, skin and skin structure infections and severe acne.

Adoxa is sold by Bioglan Pharmaceutical Co.
