TAHU's Misty Baker Named to Texas Department of Insurance's New Task Force on Health Coverage Awareness

Posted on: Monday, 5 June 2006, 18:00 CDT

Texas Association of Health Underwriters President Colleen Pruitt of Lubbock today announced that Misty Baker of Austin has been appointed to the new Task Force on Health Coverage Awareness and Education Program being set up at the Texas Department of Insurance.

Ms. Baker is an independent health insurance agent from Austin and is Director of Legislative Affairs for TAHU Director of Legislative Affairs for TAHU.

The Task Force was one of the requirements of Senate Bill 261 which the Legislature passed during the 2005 regular session and will make recommendations to the Department to help increase public awareness of the health insurance options that are available to Texans, educate Texans about the value of owning health insurance, and to increase the visibility of information about health insurance products like Health Savings Accounts and high deductible health plans.

"Misty's knowledge and experience as a person who works with health insurance every day will be invaluable to the Task Force because she knows what employers and consumers will respond to and why," TAHU President Pruitt said. "We have too many uninsured Texans and one of the reasons is lack of information."

"This Task Force will help consumers by giving them easy, user-friendly information that we hope will motivate them to own their own comprehensive health plan."

Now in her second year as TAHU Legislative Council Director, Misty wears another Health Underwriters hat, serving as president of the Austin Association of Health Underwriters.

For additional information, see TAHU's web site at www.TAHU.org, or contact the Media Chair, Lonnie Klene at 713-869-6286.
