MediaFact (http://www.mediafact.com), an online resource for information on health care issues related to hazardous occupational exposure and drug side effects, has published a new section on Zyprexa and diabetes.
Zyprexa (olanzapine), manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, is a widely prescribed antipsychotic drug used for the treatment of schizophrenia and manic depression. Evidence now suggests that Zyprexa is linked to the development of diabetes in a significant number of patients. Since these patients were unaware that they had developed diabetes, it was not treated. A number of them have experienced diabetic shock, fallen into comas, and/or died.
The FDA now requires Eli Lilly to place a "black box" warning on Zyprexa, indicating the potential dangers associated with the drug's use and its link to the development of diabetes. Furthermore, researchers from Duke University have noted a significant number of deaths among Zyprexa users.
To help consumers understand the potential complications of Zyprexa, MediaFact provides in-depth articles explaining how diabetes can be brought on by taking Zyprexa. The site also includes legal options for patients who have been affected by the drug.
Articles in the Zyprexa and Diabetes section include:
