Immune Response to Expand HIV Trial

The Immune Response Corp. said Monday it has received the go-ahead to expand its phase 2 trial of a new HIV treatment.
The company said it has completed the first stage of enrollment of drug-naive HIV patients in the phase 2 study of IR103, set in Italy.
The trial — including 31 patients from a previous trial of IRC’s immunotherapy Remune, and 54 new patients — will test IR103 as a first-line therapy for drug-naive HIV patients who are not yet recommended for antiretroviral therapy under current medical guidelines.
The study will ultimately enroll more than 200 drug-naive patients in two parallel studies in Italy, France, Canada and the U.K., IRC said, and will assess the safety and effectiveness of IR103 in inducing HIV-specific immunity.
