California Pacific Medical Center Awards $500,000 in Health Grants to San Francisco Community Health Organizations

Posted on: Thursday, 22 June 2006, 21:00 CDT

To promote and improve the health and well-being of San Franciscans, California Pacific Medical Center has awarded $500,000 to 19 of the city's neighborhood health organizations.

"California Pacific is committed to boosting the wellness and health of all our City's residents," said Dr. Terry Giovannini, Director of Community Health for CPMC. "San Franciscans do not have equitable access to caregivers, and we hope these grants will help level the playing field," he added.

The focus of California Pacific's Community Health Grant program, now in its third year, is threefold: to improve access to medical services for the uninsured and low-income families; to increase chronic disease prevention programs that promote healthy living; and, to establish behavioral and mental health services within vulnerable populations in San Francisco.

"The partnership with California Pacific puts us on the leading edge of healthcare," said Marcus Hartsfield, a mental health therapist with St. Anthony's Clinic, one of the grantees. "By taking care of a patient's mind, body and soul as a whole, we get better outcomes. This grant will enable us to not only continue helping our clients, but also to expand our mental health and substance abuse services," Hartsfield continued.

Community Health Grants Program winners for 2006 include:
