Wellmont Health System in Kingsport, Tennessee, Selects CliniComp Essentris in OB and NICU Settings

Posted on: Wednesday, 5 July 2006, 09:00 CDT

CliniComp, Intl., a leading provider of clinical information solutions, today announced that Wellmont Health System of Kingsport, Tennessee, has selected the Essentris(TM) Perinatal information system at two of its facilities. Implementation is under way in the OB departments of Bristol Regional Medical Center and Holston Valley Medical Center and will later take place in support of perinatal/neonatal intensive care units (NICU) in the health system.

Essentris Perinatal is built on Reliance 247, CliniComp's patented, always available architecture. The software comprises three separate, yet integrated, applications: fetal surveillance, maternal charting and NICU. These three applications span the entire perinatal continuum, from prenatal through post partum.

"We were looking to replace our current system with one that provided a number of capabilities that only CliniComp could deliver," says Terry Tobin, director of clinical applications for Wellmont Health. "This system combines nurses' documentation and electronic ordering for lab, radiology and medications, which is a new feature for us.

"Our staff was also impressed with the remote viewing capabilities for doctors, the ability to document in the NICU and CliniComp's experience and stability in the industry. In addition, we know that Essentris will operate in a Citrix software environment when we make that migration in the future."

Wellmont's selection of Essentris followed an extensive vendor review, in which the hospital asked doctors and nurses to evaluate two other competing systems. Essentris features ranked highest with the approximately 50 doctors and nurses who will use the system in the two facilities, which together deliver more than 1,600 babies a year.

"It was critical for Wellmont to choose a system that was completely reliable and scalable to their future growth," says Carl Witonsky, CliniComp vice chairman. "Our years of experience in the industry also assured them that we will be a long-term partner as their needs expand."
