Brain Matters Imaging Centers and Continuing Education Seminars Present an Evening Devoted to Neuroimaging Contributions to the Neurologic and Psychiatric Diagnostic Process
Posted on: Wednesday, 5 July 2006, 12:00 CDT
Brain Matters Imaging Centers -- advancing the use of functional brain imaging technology in the medical community -- is pleased to partner with Continuing Education Seminars in presenting three leading researchers in Nuclear Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology for an evening of education and collaboration. A program devoted to Recent Contributions of Neuroimaging to the Neurologic and Psychiatric Diagnostic Process will be presented on July 17 from 5:00pm - 9:30pm at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center, Seattle, WA.
This event addresses the advantage of utilizing SPECT imaging technology in evaluating neurological and neurobehavioral disorders. It will also update clinicians regarding ongoing advances in the medical practices of psychiatry, neurology and molecular neurology, such as: . . .
-- treating psychiatric and neurologic conditions as brain processes; not categories -- understanding the large role of co-morbidity in treatment and rehabilitation -- using evidence-based diagnostic procedures instead of symptom checklists.
Evolving practice patterns of clinicians addressing neurologic and psychiatric health issues demand new technologies to more thoroughly evaluate fundamental neurobiological processes in the brain in order to implement more effective treatment plans.
Guest Speakers:
David Lewis, MD
Past President, Brain Imaging Council, Director of Nuclear Medicine at Harborview Medical Center, and Director of Nuclear Medicine, Residency Training Program at the University of Washington
Speaking on: Brain Perfusion SPECT in Cerebrovascular Disease and Epilepsy
Jesse Fann, MD MPH
Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, University of Washington School of Medicine
Speaking on: Psychiatric Issues Related to Traumatic Brain Injury
Ishmael Mena, MD
Professor Emeritus, Radiological Sciences UCLA School of Medicine, Former Chairman of the International Advisory, Scientific Committee of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine, and Editor-in-chief, Alasbimn Journal
Speaking on: NeuroSPECT in Clinical Psychiatric Diagnosis -- Basal and Brain Activation Studies -- Findings in Mood and Thought Disorders.
This is an accredited CME/CE program providing 3 hours of Category 1 credit to participants. Complimentary admission, seating limited.
About Brain Matters, Inc.
Brain Matters Imaging Centers deliver detailed images of the brain in action by means of high resolution SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) topical maps of the brain's activity and function. Brain Matters holds exclusive rights to the most advanced software and equipment in the world for brain imaging.
This advanced technology tool helps to identify brain function processes which can assist in the evaluation of conditions such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), seizures, stroke, Alzheimer's and other dementia processes, ADHD, OCD, depression, bipolar/mood disorders, anxiety, Tourette's Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
SPECT imaging not only identifies the location of brain based (neurological) disorders, but also helps determine the range or severity of the disorder along with other possible brain dysfunctions which may be complicating the primary pathology. For example, an unrecognized traumatic brain injury can make depression more difficult to treat.
