St Jude Medical Center and Lumedx to Manage Patient Data

St Jude Medical in Minnesota has struck a deal to integrate and manage cardiovascular patient data with Lumedx, a cardiovascular information systems provider with over 350 heart center customers worldwide.
Under the agreement, data from St Jude Medical's Merlin patient care system will automatically feed into the Lumedx Apollo Advance cardiovascular data repository from hospitals, clinics or physicians' offices. As a result, physicians will be able to access patients' medical records in a 'single view,' which Lumedx says can help streamline workflow for physicians and improve quality of care for patients.
With the St Jude and Lumedx agreement, data will be integrated into one electronic medical record, providing clinicians with complete medical information at all stages of patient care. This may also reduce or eliminate duplicate data entry, improve administrative reporting and better track clinical and cost outcomes.
St Jude's Merlin patient care system, which received FDA approval in April 2006, is a portable computer that programs ICDs and pacemakers. The system helps clinicians retrieve and analyze patient information during routine follow-up visits. An LCD touch-screen helps physicians more efficiently conduct tests, analyze therapeutic and diagnostic data, and program implanted devices for optimal patient care.
"With this agreement, St Jude Medical and Lumedx will integrate, consolidate and organize EP, ICD, and pacemaker data into a central cardiovascular information system, helping heart centers produce richer and more comprehensive patient reports," said Laurel Shearer, executive vice president of Lumedx sales and marketing.
