Posted on: Monday, 10 July 2006, 15:00 CDT

CLEVELAND, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The fourth annual Cleveland Senior Summer College will take place at Cuyahoga Community College's Metropolitan Campus on Wednesday, August 9 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. This year's theme is "Learning for a Lifetime" and the free one-day educational event gives residents age 55 and older an opportunity to spend the day learning, playing and creating.

The event offers 37 workshops in numerous subject areas from which seniors can attend up to four programs. Some hot topics include "Identity Theft and How to Avoid Becoming a Victim" presented by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, "Protecting Your Independence: Benefits and Legal Documents You Need to Understand,""Disaster Planning for Seniors," and Pandemic Flu and Preparedness." Along with the educational programs offered, the day-long activities also include information on issues that affect seniors such as Medicare, diabetes, home safety, exercise and nutrition. Seniors will receive breakfast and lunch and have an opportunity to visit with more than 20 community exhibitors.

The event is co-sponsored by the City of Cleveland Department of Aging and is part of the Pathways to Successful Aging Initiative from The Cleveland Foundation.

"We believe that remaining socially active and intellectually engaged is a key element of successful aging," commented Lifelong Learning Manager Lori Rosenberg. "The tradition that Cleveland Senior Summer College successfully integrates the two makes this program dynamic and is a testament to the resources that Tri-C has available to members of the 55+ community."

Participants enroll in a multi-week session of classes where they can take one to six different courses. Fall classes at the Eastern and Western campuses begin September 8.
