American Health Combats Rising Healthcare Costs
Posted on: Monday, 10 July 2006, 15:00 CDT
A recent study published by Milliman states the "average total medical spending for a family of four reached $13,382 in 2006," with employers shelling out around $8,362 of this amount. As a leading medical management organization, American Health Holding, Inc. is equipped to help employer groups drive down these costs.
While some healthcare costs are necessary, some may be averted or reduced by instituting wellness and disease management initiatives like American Health's Club Health, programs. The Club Health programs offer members, both well and chronically ill, the tools they need to maintain or improve their health. Periodic mailings, a 24/7 Care Line and a wellness website with health reminders encourage members to actively take part in their health. Club Health is comprised of four program levels:
High-risk Disease Management: designed to target the sickest 2-4% of members, this level includes programs for a wide variety of high-risk, high-cost conditions. The program also includes a 24/7 Care Line and telephonic Health Information Library, member-specific care plans, and regular interaction with a Nurse Health Coach.
Population Disease Management: designed to target all chronic members (15-25%), this level includes the High-risk program as described above, as well as low-risk programs for 6 prevalent conditions. Members enrolled in the low-risk programs also have access to Care Line and the wellness website, and receive disease-related mailing campaigns 7 times per year.
Total Health Management: designed to target 100% of members, this level includes the Population disease management programs described above for chronically ill members. Well members receive telephonic and online wellness and health education through Care Line and the wellness website, plus educational mailings 7 times a year.
Wellness: this level is designed to provide wellness education opportunities to 100% of members. It includes telephonic and online wellness and health education, and wellness-related educational mailings 7 times a year.
"American Health is committed to providing services that span the healthcare continuum, providing cost savings while promoting quality care," states Amie Horan, Marketing Communications Supervisor for American Health. "The four levels of Club Health allow our clients to take as broad or as targeted an approach to health and wellness as the want."
