School Can Be Deadly for Children With Allergies

SPRING LAKE, N.J., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- For parents who have children with food or environmental allergies, each new school year brings challenges that are serious business. Whether the culprit is a bee sting, a glass of milk or a smear of peanut butter, parents of children with allergies know that the best way to avoid a potentially fatal allergy attack is information.
Stuck on You, the company that won parents' hearts with simple solutions to everyday child-related challenges, has created Allergy-Free Zone labels to alert caretakers to keep certain products away from allergen-sensitive little ones. The allergy-free labels come in three sizes and styles: "Nut-Free Zone,""Dairy-Free Zone" and "Egg-Free Zone." Each label is dishwasher and microwave safe, and special allergy labels with health-related messages may be custom-ordered.
While children may know which foods or situations to avoid, others around them may inadvertently put the child at risk if they are not aware of the allergen. After all, it's relatively easy to make sure there's no peanut butter, in your own home, but school cafeterias are an entirely different matter.
"Even though your child likely knows which foods to avoid, one of the most important things parents can do is give teachers and other school officials a heads-up so they'll be prepared to act in an emergency," says Stuck on You CEO and mother Amy Lipton.
Lipton goes on to note that an estimated 90 percent of all food allergy reactions are caused by one of the following eight "offenders": peanuts, milk, soy, eggs, wheat, tree nuts, fish and shellfish. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, children are more likely than adults to have such allergies.
Stuck on You works with hundreds of schools and day-care centers across the country to develop personalized labeling products specifically designed to better organize school-aged children. For more information, visit the company's website, http://www.stuckonyou.biz/.
