NEW YORK, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Gilda's Club Worldwide today announced the winners of Snapshot Of Survival, a national art contest created for those affected by colorectal cancer to visualize the emotions related to their cancer experience. Out of more than 50 entries, the judging panel selected a first, second and third place winner, along with ten honorable mentions, to be part of the Snapshot of Survival exhibit, which will travel to premier cancer centers around the country. Carmen Marc Valvo, fashion designer, colon cancer survivor and member of the Snapshot of Survival jury panel, knows too well the power of art as an outlet to feelings related to colon cancer. At the height of his career, Carmen was diagnosed with colon cancer and treated for his disease in April 2003. As a cancer survivor, he used his design and artistic talent to express emotions associated with diagnosis and the treatment process.
Colorectal cancer is the third most frequently diagnosed cancer in the United States. In 2006, there will be nearly 150,000 new cases of colorectal cancer in the U.S.
