Run for a Reason at 'Kid's Cure'; Brent's Place to Hold 18th Annual 5K Run/Walk and 1K Fun Run to Support Kids With Cancer

Posted on: Friday, 14 July 2006, 15:00 CDT

Runners will take their marks at Kid's Cure for Cancer 5K Run/Walk to help raise money for Brent's Place, a Denver-based non-profit organization that provides housing and support services for kids with cancer and their families. The 5K Run is the most popular of the three Kid's Cure events that include a motorcycle rally and tennis tournament, on Saturday, July 22.

Kids take center stage at Kid's Cure, kicking off the race with a 1K Fun Run. Nine-year-old Hunter Johnson, a Brent's Place resident, will start the race. His nine-member team, Hunter's Hope, has raised over $1,000 for Kid's Cure.

Hunter had a bone marrow transplant in May to treat Aplastic Anemia, a rare but extremely serious bone marrow disorder. Brent's place allows Hunter and Mom, Heather, to remain close to his caregivers at The Children's Hospital. "We are delighted to have Hunter and his family at the race," said Adele Gelfand, Executive Director of Brent's Place. "Kids Cure honors Hunter, and all of our kids with cancer. That is the reason behind the fun and activities on July 22nd."

Kids will join Hunter and his team in a 1K Fun Run at 7:50 am. The 5K Run/Walk follows at 8:00 am. Registration for both races begins at 7:00 am. There will be a pancake breakfast provided by the Kiwanis Club of Castle Rock for all registered participants.

The Kid's Cure Community Fair includes vendors, food, beverages and fun! Stay and enjoy games and crafts at Kid's Corner Activity Center, and entertainment provided by The Woodies, KOSI 101, and 9NEWS.

To register, visit www.kidscure.org or call 303-831-4545.
