Smart Document Solutions Announces Medical Release-of-Information Processing Record

In June 2006, the company fulfilled over 550,000 release-of-information (ROI) requests while managing over nineteen million pages of electronically converted medical records. The records processed amount to an average of over 864,000 pages managed per day, and over 25,000 release-of-information requests fulfilled per day. The majority of requests are now being fulfilled electronically, further providing requesters with significant efficiencies.

Patient records are scanned at provider facilities or pulled from electronic medical records, then sent to SDS to be checked for accuracy and quality, indexed, delivered to the requester electronically or via hard copy, and tracked. The management of the release-of-information process can be conducted on-site by SDS personnel or managed in-house while SDS manages the back-office functions such as medical record distribution, requestor invoicing and collection.

SDS serves over 6,500 healthcare facilities throughout the United States. Recipients of medical record requests include law firms, insurance payers, government entities, patients, and other providers.
