The Nutmeg State Games, the largest amateur sporting event in Connecticut, welcomes Health Net of the Northeast, one of the largest health plans in Connecticut, as its official 2006 title sponsor. Health Net has signed on through 2007 and the partnership promises to be a strong one. The "Health Net Nutmeg State Games" is a multi-sport, Olympic-style, weeklong festival featuring both team and individual style athletic games held at multiple venues throughout Fairfield County, July 30-August 6, 2007.
"Health Net is a natural fit with the Nutmeg State Games," said Steve H. Nelson, president, Health Net of the Northeast. "The Health Net Nutmeg State Games is a premiere, community-oriented festival that will attract athletes from all over Connecticut. Being involved in such a grassroots event allows Health Net to deliver on our commitment to promote healthy lifestyles among our members and in our local communities."
The Health Net Nutmeg State Games will offer 23 different sports this summer. Athletes will compete in a variety of team and individual style events including everything from baseball and basketball to swimming and roller hockey. Last year, every town and city in Connecticut was represented by at least one athlete. This year, event organizers are expecting more than 6,000 athletes, 1,500 volunteers and 30,000 spectators to participate in the games.
"We are proud and honored to have Health Net as our title sponsor and partner for the Nutmeg State Games," said Bill Mudano, Founder and Executive Director, Nutmeg State Games. "We look forward to working with Health Net to continue to grow Connecticut's largest amateur sporting event. Together, we can make a difference."
Bridgeport is the official host city of the Health Net Nutmeg State Games. Opening Ceremonies will take place Sunday, July 30, starting at 5 p.m. EDT at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
