Senate approves embryonic stem cell bill

July 18, 2006

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate on Tuesday approved
legislation that would expand embryonic stem cell research,
which President George W. Bush has vowed to veto.

Backers of the bipartisan bill, already approved by the
House of Representatives, acknowledge they do not have the
two-thirds majority necessary to override the veto in both the
House and the Senate.
