Police in St. Paul, Minn., are trying to learn the truth about a troubled 15-year-old girl who allegedly admitted, and then denied, killing her newborn.
Police said Tuesday they weren't sure the girl actually gave birth, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.
Police said the girl has given them four different stories. She has told them the child died shortly after it was born; that it was born and given to a stranger; and that the baby was born, killed and discarded. She then said she was never pregnant and wanted attention from family and friends, the newspaper said.
The girl was under the care of county child protection services when she ran away last month. Social workers said they believe the girl was 38 or 39 weeks pregnant at the time.
Police found the girl, no longer pregnant, at a house in the city's North End neighborhood. She first denied being pregnant, and then told investigators she had given birth, the newspaper said.
