Carly Fiorina and Addie Swartz to Headline Babson Women's Leadership Conference

Posted on: Friday, 21 July 2006, 12:00 CDT

WELLESLEY, Mass., July 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Carly Fiorina, who returned innovation to a Silicon Valley giant, and Addie Swartz, who created the Beacon Street Girls, offering a new, more positive world for preteen girls, will share their leadership journeys at the Women's Leadership Conference at Babson College on September 15, 2006.

The Center for Women's Leadership (CWL) at Babson is organizing the all-day, 9th annual event in collaboration with the Babson Association for Women MBAs' student group.

Fiorina led HP's controversial merger with Compaq Computer Corp., now recognized as one of the most successful high-tech mergers in history. She called for a new era of leadership, one in which corporate leaders have an opportunity to redefine the role of the corporation, to use profit engines to raise the capabilities, extend the hopes, and extinguish despair of people across the globe.

She is currently at work on a book about her career and her views on such issues as what constitutes a leader, how women can thrive in business, and the role technology will continue to play in the world. The book is scheduled for release this fall by the Portfolio imprint at Penguin Group.

Swartz is the founder and CEO of B*tween Productions, Inc., publisher of the Beacon Street Girls (BSG) book series and website (http://www.beaconstreetgirls.com/). Beacon Street Girls provides positive role models and empowering messages for preteen girls. The BSG world crosses socio-economic barriers and uses problem-solving tools within an entertaining format that girls can apply to their own lives.

A longtime entrepreneur with a commitment to quality educational products and entertainment, Swartz founded BrightIdeas in 1992, which sold children's learning software to parents and teachers. Addison Wesley acquired the venture in 1996.

Babson's conference will feature more than 50 entrepreneurs and corporate and not-for-profit women leaders who will share their expertise, captivating stories, and life lessons at panel and workshop learning sessions throughout the day. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with these women who have successfully made a difference in business.
