Per-Se Technologies Helps Hospitals Forecast Patients' Ability to Pay for Care With Patient Verification Services 4.1 Release; New Software Release Improves Efficiency of Revenue Cycle

Per-Se Technologies (Nasdaq: PSTI), the leader in Connective Healthcare solutions that help physicians, pharmacies and hospitals realize their financial goals, announced today the availability of Version 4.1 of its Patient Verification Services (PVS), which offers predictive reporting functionality to determine a patient's ability to pay for services and verify a patient's billing address in real time. Hospitals use Per-Se's PVS to optimize the patient information process by determining medical necessity, insurance eligibility and address validity prior to admissions.
"Healthcare is one of the few industries that provides a valuable service with little to no knowledge of a consumer's ability to pay," said Dave Mason, president of Hospital Solutions - Revenue Cycle Management for Per-Se Technologies. "Our Patient Verification Services empower hospitals with tools to verify insurance eligibility, calculate a patient's ability to pay for services and pinpoint alternative payment options early on in order to promote a healthy and efficient revenue cycle."
PVS 4.1 employs a predictive model powered by SearchAmerica as well as internally developed business intelligence which presents data indicating not only the accuracy of the patient's demographic information but also a patient's ability to pay for services. "More than 40% of claim denials are attributed to inaccurate patient demographics," said Mason. By analyzing this information prior to the delivery of service, hospitals will be able to reduce claim denials as well as potentially establish protocols for pre- or partial-advance payment. Additionally, early detection of patient accounts with a low potential for payment will help hospitals more appropriately assign resources for collections efforts.
Other features of the new release include a utility that allows for customization of explanations for Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABN) and a new query that permits medical necessity checking without the creation of an ABN.
PVS is part of Per-Se's suite of Revenue Cycle Management solutions that create more efficiencies and automation in critical processes impacting reimbursement. Other Revenue Cycle Management solutions include real-time electronic claims management, partial or complete outsourcing of the central billing office functions, print and mail services, denial management and cash posting.
