Posted on: Monday, 24 July 2006, 12:00 CDT
SEATTLE, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwest Hospital & Medical Center is pleased to present "Heart-to-Heart with Dr. Oz," a luncheon event featuring Mehmet Oz, M.D., nationally renowned heart surgeon, best-selling author and frequent guest of the Oprah Winfrey Show. The presentation will be from 12 to 1:30 p.m. on October 12, 2006 at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Downtown Seattle. Tickets are $150.
This event will focus on women's heart health and feature an educational presentation with Dr. Oz based on his New York Time's Bestselling Book, "You: The Owner's Manual" and the award-winning "Healing from the Heart," which examines biophysical changes of the body that contribute to heart disease. Dr. Oz will address issues related to women and heart disease including risk factors, preventative care and women's heart attack symptoms, which can vary greatly from those experienced by men.
Cardiovascular disease claims more women's lives than the next five causes of death combined -- about 500,000 women's lives a year.
"Education is a powerful tool in the prevention and treatment of heart disease in women," says Mehmet Oz, M.D. "I look forward to coming to Seattle to share the latest medical findings on the subject, raise awareness about the potential risks factors for women, and suggest potential lifestyle changes they can make to maximize their potential to live long and happy lives."
Dr. Oz is a high-profile spokesperson on health and self-care and speaks internationally on the topic of heart health. He has been featured on such television shows as 20/20 and Good Morning America, and was recently recognized in Esquire's Best and Brightest as "The Guru", in O Magazine as part of the "O Team on Health," and in Newsweek. He also is a professor and vice-chairman of surgery at Columbia University in New York, NY. He is medical director of the Heart Institute at New York Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center. He is an innovator in the field of cardiac surgery, exploring the use and effectiveness of robotics in surgery, mechanical pumps as a long-term therapy for heart failure, minimally invasive heart surgery techniques, and complementary therapies from around the world.
"Northwest Hospital & Medical Center is home to one of the region's busiest cardiac emergency departments, and we are thrilled to bring Dr. Oz to Seattle, as an innovator of devices and procedures to heal the heart," says Mark McCampbell, Executive Director of Northwest Hospital Foundation. "Heart disease is the number one cause of death among women in America, and this event is an important educational tool for the Seattle community."
