Diamics, Inc., a San Francisco Bay-area, medical device and diagnostics company, today announced that Richard J. Cote, M.D., FRCPath, has been named to the newly formed position of Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President.

Dr. Cote was the founder of IMPATH, Inc., served on its Board of Directors, and was the company’s Chief Strategic Consultant. In 2004, he repositioned ChromaVision (now Clarient, Inc.) into a successful services and biotech company, serving as Chief Medical Officer during that transition. Prior to joining Diamics, he headed Clarient’s Scientific Advisory Board and was its Chief Strategic Consultant.

Dr. Cote presently holds Professorships in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Urology at University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine/Norris Cancer Center in Los Angeles, where he also serves as Director of the Genitourinary Program, Chair of the Biomedical Nanoscience Committee, and Director of the Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Pathology. A well known writer and lecturer, Dr. Cote is the author of two major textbooks in pathology.

“Richard Cote is highly regarded in the international pathology community and is widely recognized both for his scientific and business achievements. His global reputation in medical research, medical education, clinical trials and biotechnology will be invaluable as Diamics advances and introduces its proprietary molecular-based diagnostics technologies,” said Peter Gombrich, CEO, Diamics, Inc.

Dr. Cote is a prolific researcher and is internationally recognized for his work on molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and response to therapy.

“I look forward to joining Diamics’ experienced management team and to bringing this advanced cervical cancer screening system to millions of women around the globe,” said Dr. Cote.

Dr. Cote’s interest in technology development has led to innovations in antigen and nucleic acid retrieval, novel applications of PCR (polymerase chain reaction) technology, and development of novel nanotechnology platforms for disease diagnosis and evaluation. He is the recipient of numerous major research grants, holds several patents, and has participated on scientific advisory boards for both academic and industry-related institutions.

Richard Cote received an M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine (1980) and B.S. and B.A. degrees (Cum Laude) from the University of California, Irvine (1976). He is board certified by the American Board of Pathology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.
