Bally Total Fitness Works With State Employees to Get Them 'Fit 4 Life'

Posted on: Friday, 4 August 2006, 18:00 CDT

CHICAGO, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of their "Shape Up Chicago" campaign, Bally Total Fitness is teaming up with the State of Illinois to encourage government employees to make a pledge to get fit.

Through the partnership, Bally Total Fitness is offering free two-month trial memberships to state employees who are participating in the "Fit 4 Life" program, a health & fitness initiative led by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). These agencies are asking the more than 1,500 state employees enrolled in the "Fit 4 Life" Walking Challenge to make fitness a priority and are encouraging them to lead their communities by example as Bally, the IDHS and IDPH aim to remove Chicago from the "America's Fattest Cities" 2006 ranking, as posted by Men's Fitness magazine.

"We are thrilled to have Bally Total Fitness join the Fit 4 Life program," said IDHS Secretary Carol L. Adams, Ph.D. "Our goal is to encourage fitness and healthy lifestyles among not only state employees but everyone in Illinois and soon we'll be among America's Fittest Cities!"

Bally began the citywide Shape Up Chicago initiative in early May at Chicago Moves Day, and continues to offer residents the knowledge and tools they need to live a healthy and fit lifestyle through community events that offer free health assessments, consultations with a personal trainer and guest passes to workout free of charge at any of Chicago area Bally Total Fitness.

"Chicago is our hometown and we are committed to helping residents live a healthy lifestyle. Our 'Shape Up Chicago' campaign kicked off in March and helps provide the tools and knowledge people need to get active. We are excited to enhance this initiative by teaming up with the state to work together on this common goal," says Mike LaManna, regional vice president for Bally Total Fitness.

Bally Total Fitness, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Human Services plan to further their relationship and continue working together throughout the summer to help residents live a healthy and fit lifestyle.
