GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartCare Family Medical Centers is opening its first three centers in Kerr Drug locations today, bringing a new concept of consumer-driven, quality care to South Carolina communities.
"SmartCare is pleased to open its very first locations with Kerr Drug, a proven leader in creating access to a whole new level of convenient, quality healthcare for communities across the Carolinas," said Lawrence W. Hay, chief executive officer of SmartCare. "SmartCare Centers offer consumers no-appointment-necessary healthcare services, with extended day and weekend hours, that are a convenient complement to existing physician relationships."
SmartCare offers convenient, cost-effective care for basic health services such as flu shots and other immunizations, common ailments such as sore throats, ear infections and seasonal allergies, as well as school and employment physicals and cholesterol screenings. Each SmartCare Center is staffed by Nurse Practitioners and Certified Medical Assistants, with a physician on call at all times.
Centers will open in three Kerr Drug stores: in Charleston at 1804 Savannah Highway (Wappoo and Savannah Highway); in Johns Island at 2803 Maybank Highway (Maybank Highway and River Road); and in Hanahan at 1858 Remount Road (Remount Road and Yeamans Hall Road). Three additional SmartCare Centers are scheduled to open in Kerr Drug stores in North Carolina in September.
The South Carolina SmartCare openings coincide with the August observance of National Immunization Awareness Month and provide convenient, no- appointment-necessary access for back-to-school immunizations for children over the age of 12 months and adults.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommended standard immunization schedule, children should receive a series of vaccinations including: hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type b, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), pneumococcal conjugate and influenza.
It is also recommended, and often required, that college students be vaccinated against meningococcal disease before attending college. Additionally, adults should receive vaccinations to prevent influenza, pneumococcal disease, tetanus and diphtheria.
SmartCare will offer complimentary bone density analyses, dermascans and body fat analyses, and $10 cholesterol screenings through Oct. 31. The offers are good while supplies last and are based on availability. Coupons for these complimentary and discounted services will be distributed via mail and at Kerr Drug stores and SmartCare Centers throughout the promotion.
