Clinical Data to Present at Drug Discovery Technology
Posted on: Tuesday, 8 August 2006, 12:01 CDT
Clinical Data, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLDA) today announced that two of its researchers will independently present at the upcoming Drug Discovery Technology and Development 11th Annual World Congress in Boston, Mass.
On Thursday, August 10, Benjamin A. Salisbury, Ph.D., Senior Director, Genetics and Biostatistics, will present on "Discovery of Biomarkers for a Rare Adverse Drug Reaction" at 2:00 PM ET. In Dr. Salisbury's presentation, data will be presented on the Company's successful studies on Clozapine-Induced Agranulocytosis (CIA) in which a genetic marker predictive of CIA was discovered and then replicated. Applicability of the approach taken to developing genetic tests predictive of other rare adverse events will also be discussed. The data from the study was derived from Clinical Data's Clozapine and Agranulocytosis Relationships Induced by Genetic Variants ("CARING") study.
On Wednesday, August 9, Alan Higgins, Ph.D., Senior Director, Investigational Medicine, will present on "Multi-Omic Markers of Acute and Chronic Liver Injury" at 2:50 PM ET. This talk will describe a study of liver injury produced by several chemical toxicants in which metabolomic and microarray data were combined using multivariate statistics to identify biomarkers and pathways involved in liver toxicity.
The Company has previously announced it is developing a commercial genetic test for CIA risk using its newly validated research and noted that its research team continues to work on identifying and validating other genetic markers in this and other areas. PGxHealth's new clozapine test will provide physicians, patients and their families with new, quantifiable information about a patient's risk for CIA and should lead to better informed treatment decisions concerning initiating or continuing treatment of schizophrenia with clozapine.
