Posted on: Wednesday, 9 August 2006, 09:00 CDT
On Friday morning August 11, 2006, Dr. Matthew C. Cordaro, presently heading up the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will discuss "Trends in Business and Public Service Education" at a breakfast meeting of the Long Island Mid-Suffolk Business Action group (LIMBA).
Today's increasing demand for the cultivation of tomorrow's leaders has created a need for quality university-level professional education in both the private and public sector. In this regard Dr. Cordaro's presentation to LIMBA will include discussion of educational trends and available programs in higher education for business and the fields of public service, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Health Care and Public Administration.
Examples of these include executive and accelerated programs leading to Bachelors and MBA degrees in business and accounting and the MS in taxation and accounting. In particular the programs for accounting address the unprecedented demand for qualified accountants and the new certification requirements for the CPA. For Public Service, there are also courses of study towards the MS, MSW and MPA degrees, as well as accelerated programs that allow students to earn both a Bachelors and Masters degree in 5 years.
During Dr. Cordaro's 40-year career, he has served as a senior executive and CEO in the utility industry and has also been an educator while pursuing research in energy and business. Since joining the faculty of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in June 2001, he has served in many capacities and is currently Acting Dean of the College of Management and Director of the Center for Management Analysis.
Dr. Cordaro holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Physics from Cooper Union, an M.E. in Nuclear Engineering from New York University, and a B.S. in Engineering Science from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. He has also been an Atomic Energy Commission Fellow, a Guest Research Associate at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and had served as an adjunct on the engineering faculty at Polytechnic Institute of New York and the C.W. Post Campus. Dr. Cordaro has also authored many publications in the field of energy, environment and business issues.
The LIMBA "Trends in Business and Public Service Education" Breakfast will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma on Friday morning August 11 at 8:30 a.m. For additional information, call the C.W. Post Office of Public Relations at (516) 299-2332.
