Numerous Picis Customers Ranking Among ''Most Wired'' By Hospitals & Health Networks; Paperless Medical Records and Measurement of Process Improvements Contribute to Rankings

Posted on: Monday, 14 August 2006, 12:00 CDT

More than 30 U.S. hospitals using Picis software in surgical, emergency or critical care areas have been recognized as ranking among the "100 Most Wired" by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. These hospitals and IDNs are among the nation's most adept at using advanced technology to improve patient safety, quality, customer service, business processes and to drive financial returns.

The "Most Wired" sites are recognized as pioneers in measuring outcomes against key IT strategies and operational goals. For clinical information system implementations, these include improved quality through standardization of processes and better delivery of information to caregivers. These organizations also promote quality and safety using technology, such as electronic medication order entry, point-of-care access for clinicians to review records and caregiver alerts and reminders. Compared to other organizations, the "Most Wired" health systems are more likely to rely on electronic medical records, deploy more IT resources to projects and have systems in place for disaster recovery of clinical information.

"Our high-acuity automation provides the expertise and impact healthcare organizations need to transform the operating room, recovery, critical care and the emergency department into highly efficient areas that promote optimum patient care. It is no surprise that a large number of Picis clients are ranked among the nation's 'Most Wired.' Picis systems can substantially improve care quality and patient safety in these dynamic areas where patients are most vulnerable and costs and revenues are greatest," said Todd Cozzens, chief executive officer, president and vice-chairman, Picis.

Picis customers ranked as the "Most Wired" include the following:

-- Advocate Health Care, Ill.

The ED, OR and ICU environments require specialized equipment and documentation, rapid decision making by staff and interoperability between systems to promote safety and widespread acceptance by health care providers. Picis systems manage vast amounts of clinical data, supplying the right information, at the right time and place. This technology delivers proven clinical and financial results, from increased revenue and billing, to enhanced patient safety, satisfaction and compliance with Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards.

About 100 Most Wired

For the sixth year in a row Hospitals & Health Networks have named the 100 most wired hospitals and health systems based on a Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study. The recognized hospitals have been applying basic IT to deliver value through improved patient care, satisfaction and quality. In comparison with other organizations the most wired, conduct pre and post IT evaluations, have a greater amount of paperless documentation, utilize digital imaging in numerous settings, make use of a broader set of telemedicine services and organize IT education for members of staff. More than 1,200 hospitals were considered in the 2006 survey of the nation's medical centers.

Hospital rankings are published by Hospitals & Health Networks in this year's edition of the "100 Most Wired Hospitals." Hospitals receiving the honor are simplifying processes, improving quality and reaping the financial benefits of doing so. The full report is available at www.hhnmag.com.
