Former Senators Daschle and Nickles Concur on Incremental Health Care Reform for Uninsured Americans

Posted on: Wednesday, 16 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, former Senator John Breaux released the most recent episode in the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign podcast series, featuring discussions with former Senators Tom Daschle and Don Nickles. The two prominent former Senators share their views on the controversial topics of "means testing" and "individual mandates" to help reform health care policy for uninsured Americans.

"It is a great privilege to have commentary from former Senators Tom Daschle and Don Nickles on how to help the uninsured," said Senator Breaux. "Finding common ground on quality health care is a cornerstone in the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign. By listening to the Senators' bipartisan commentary on issues that traditionally divide Democrats and Republicans, like means testing and individual mandates, we can better understand ways to work together and achieve market based, incremental health care reform."

This sixth podcast episode is available today for download at http://www.ceasefireonhealthcare.org/ and posted through Yahoo!, Google, Odeo, PodNova and iTunes. The Ceasefire podcast series will be updated each Wednesday throughout the summer and fall until the elections in November, with each episode specifically focused on a different health care reform topic. In addition, the new Ceasefire blog, designed to supplement the podcast series and encourage online discussion about the most pressing health care reform trends and issues, will be posted each Tuesday and Thursday to the Ceasefire Web site.

Through the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign, Senator Breaux has held forums and discussions all over America with leading Republican and Democrat policymakers seeking ways to reform the system. The Ceasefire on Health Care campaign is sponsored by American University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies (CCPS).

Future podcasts will feature commentary from participants in previous Ceasefire bipartisan forums, including Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Gordon Smith (R-OR); former Press Secretaries Ari Fleischer and Mike McCurry; and later this fall, representatives from the AARP and the American Hospital Association.
