NEW YORK, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- With more Americans than ever being categorized as obese, the DietDetective.com (http://www.dietdetective.com/), the nation's leading online health and fitness network, has launched the first ever "Fat Clock." The clock calculates in real time the aggregate amount of weight that all adult Americans are gaining every tenth of a second.
"The impact of the obesity epidemic is staggering and is a major public health crisis," said Charles Stuart Platkin, JD, MPH., founder of the DietDetective.com, nationally recognized health advocate and syndicated columnist. The Diet Detective's "Fat Clock" is the best visual representation of the growing weight Americans amass on a daily basis.
Platkin continued, "Obesity increases the risk for many diseases and health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, Stroke, Hypertension, Osteoarthritis, Sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and even some cancers.
The "Fat Clock" can be found on the DietDetective.com's home page. To create the "Fat Clock," Platkin and colleagues developed a formula for predicting the aggregate weight Americans gain per tenth of a second using data provided from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Census. It started calculating at midnight on August 15, 2006.
