450 SEIU UHW Caregivers Announce Strike Date At John Muir Health-Concord Campus

Posted on: Thursday, 17 August 2006, 15:00 CDT

CONCORD, Calif., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, 450 Licensed Vocational Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Dietary Aides, and other hospital workers at John Muir Health-Concord Campus (formerly Mt. Diablo Hospital) announced plans for a two day strike on August 28th and August 29th. The announcement comes after hospital management refused recent invitations by the caregivers, who are represented by SEIU United Healthcare Workers-West, to return to the bargaining table. The SEIU UHW caregivers have been working without a contract since their last one expired on October 15, 2005 and are fighting to maintain a fair and affordable health insurance plan, a ban on subcontracting healthcare jobs to the lowest bidder, guidelines to prevent unnecessary layoffs, and safe staffing guidelines.

SEIU UHW caregivers already held a two-day strike last February 23rd and 24th in an effort to settle the contract dispute.
