State of Indiana Rolls Out New Health Program to Support and Encourage Healthy Lifestyles for Its Employees

In Keeping With Governor's Daniels' INShape Indiana Campaign, The New Health Program From The Haelan Group Aims to Improve State Employee Health Through Proactive Support and Coaching
The Haelan(R) Group, the only provider of perceived health predictive modeling and health coaching, announced today that the State of Indiana is offering its One Care Street(TM) predictive modeling and health coaching system to improve the health and well-being of its more than 32,000 state insured employees and their spouses. The health initiative launched in May 2006 and will roll out over a six-month period.
"It was clear to us that we needed to offer a new type of program to State employees that really gave them the tools and one-on-one support needed to improve their health and adopt a healthier lifestyle," said Debra Minott, director of the State Personnel Department. "Our health claims were higher than normal and this indicates that our employees need a resource for tackling health problems - be it obesity, smoking, stress or whatever ails them - faster and more effectively."
From May to October 2006, state employees will fill out online health perception surveys that help identify which of them need immediate, proactive help through a health coach or those that are low-risk and simply need supportive health options. The State is offering premium reductions to employees that fill out surveys and set a health goal by the due date and if eligible for coaching, participate in at least the first health coaching call.
"Our perceived health surveys employ a unique approach for uncovering each person's own health reality, as we like to call it," said Julie Meek, CEO and founder of The Haelan Group. "Each person has their own set of symptoms and perceived sense of feeling well or ill. The whole idea behind One Care Street is to find and help people early providing highly-skilled health coaching long before that unmet need leads to a health crisis."
"We have been very clear to employees that we in no way receive any health information," added Minott. "This program is simply a valuable opportunity for them to turn things around and put themselves on a track towards better health and ultimately, happiness from feeling better."
The Haelan Group's Unique Predictive Modeling and Health Coaching Program
Unlike current health management programs, the One Care Street predictive modeling tool helps employers find and proactively help individuals who aren't feeling well. Trained health coaches contact these employees, one-on-one, to extend the help needed to develop highly tailored plans to start feeling better and to improve their own health.
