api Software Inc., a provider of labor resource management software solutions for healthcare organizations, today announced High Point Regional Hospital as the first place winner of its Best Practice Award and Carroll Hospital Center as the second place winner. Both organizations were recognized during API’s Client Forum user’s group meeting, which was held in Milwaukee from July 31-August 3.

API’s Best Practice Award recognizes customers that excel at using the company’s healthcare-specific labor resource management applications to streamline processes, generate substantial costs savings and realize a tangible return on their technology investments. As part of the award, API is donating $5,000 to the first place winner’s charity of choice, and $2,500 to the second place winner’s charity of choice.

First-place winner High Point Regional Hospital, a 384-bed facility located in North Carolina, uses API’s Payrollmation(R) Time and Attendance, Navigator Payroll/HR and SecurALL(R) Access Control systems to help manage more than 2,400 employees. Since implementing the Navigator Payroll/HR application in November 2002, the hospital has automated a number of manual HR processes, minimized paperwork, reduced costs and streamlined payroll processing. The hospital also uses Navigator to give employees online access to their HR information. As a result, call volume in the payroll department has been reduced by 30 percent, freeing up HR staff to focus on more strategic tasks. In the future, High Point Regional Hospital plans to expand its use of the Navigator application to facilitate the posting of direct deposit receipts online, which will eliminate the need to print paper pay stubs and save the hospital an estimated $46,000 per year.

In addition, High Point Regional Hospital uses API’s SecurALL access control system to better manage secured locations throughout the facility by immediately inactivating badge access for terminated employees. Prior to implementing SecurALL, this process could take up to two weeks and posed a considerable security risk for the organization.

The second place winner, Carroll Hospital Center, utilizes API’s Payrollmation Time and Attendance system to automate manual payroll processes for 1,600 employees. Since implementing the system in January 2006, the hospital has reduced the time it takes to process payroll from 30 hours to less than one hour–saving an estimated $80,000 in labor costs. In addition, employees can now view their benefit balances and payroll information online from the convenience of their home or office. Carroll Hospital Center is private, 200-bed hospital based in Westminster, Md.

"These organizations set the standard for excellence in labor resource management," said Luis Garcia, president and chief executive officer of api Software, Inc. "By using API products that were designed specifically to meet the needs of today’s healthcare organizations, both High Point Regional Hospital and Carroll Hospital Center have realized tremendous efficiencies that contribute directly to their bottom lines."
