UC San Diego Extension will host a free Open House on Thursday, Sept. 7 for those seeking new avenues to career advancement and creative pursuits. The evening celebration offers opportunities to network with more than 30 professional associations such as the Project Management Institute, the Society for Human Resource Professionals, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts, among others. The 40th Anniversary event is open to everyone with a passion for lifelong learning. Special anniversary gifts will be given to attendees.
The free public forum will be from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at the Institute of the Americas located on the campus of UC San Diego at 10111 North Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla. More than thirty learning stations will be set up for attendees to explore and gather materials on diverse offerings such as executive education, travel study, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and UCSD-TV. Career counselors, program representatives, and instructors will be available to answer questions and offer expert advice on industry trends. Online learning demonstrations will allow for "hands-on" navigation of Extension's web-based portfolio.
"The 40th Anniversary Open House is designed to give individuals and organizations a feel for the depth and breadth of incredibly diverse programs focused on professional education and training, cultural enrichment, and economic development," says Bruce Dunn, associate Dean of UCSD Extension. "Whether you're starting a new career, building a company, or developing a deeper appreciation of the world around you, Extension has the resources you need to get started."
Attendees may learn about new class offerings such as Going Green, Designing for the Workplace, HR Leadership, and Science Writing. A special exhibit from Extension's Digital Arts Center will welcome invitees. The colorful display is comprised of a graphics gallery created by program graduates.
This event is made possible by the generous support of SAIC, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Jobing.com, Voice of San Diego, and San Diego Business Journal. Special thanks to The French Gourmet and BarWorks for their generous donations of catering services.
Since 1966, more than one million learners, and their organizations, have leveraged Extension to launch new enterprises, accelerate career advancement, and to gain a better understanding of the world. Arriving from the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Latin America, students pursue knowledge in critical professions such as life sciences, engineering, healthcare and business management. Artists have pursued their creative passions through programs such as UCSD Jazz Camp, and Revelle Forum at the Neurosciences Institute.
Please register early to reserve a space. Online registrants will be eligible for a free class drawing valued at up to $500. Free parking is available. Food and refreshments will be served. To register, or for more information, visit extension.ucsd.edu/openhouse or call 858-534-3400.
