Novo Innovations and Northeast Georgia Medical Center Implement Practical, Affordable Solution for Integrating With Physician Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Systems

Novo Innovations, Inc. has partnered with Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Health System (NGHS) in Gainesville, Georgia, to provide a practical solution to an integration challenge that is widespread in healthcare.
NGHS faced increasing pressure from their affiliated physicians to deliver results data in an electronic format. These physicians had deployed Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and were no longer satisfied with the time, expense and effort associated with processing results delivered via fax machines, couriers or even the health system's portal. Previous attempts to deliver results electronically using traditional interface engines and security infrastructures had been complex, time-consuming and expensive.
NGHS solved this dilemma by deploying Novo Innovations' Agent Grid. "The Novo installation took less than 30 days, required very little hardware and used minimal hospital resources. In fact, it was the first installation I have done in years where I attended the kickoff and the go-live meetings and did not have to be involved in the process in between. The physicians are excited that we can deliver results in a timely, accurate and secure manner directly into their EMRs. We are excited that we can add physicians to the Novo Grid without a large expense or technical effort," says Mark Jennings, Northeast Georgia's CIO.
The Novo Grid now delivers results, including laboratory, pathology, radiology transcriptions, surgical notes and discharge summaries within minutes of being generated by the clinical information systems. Results can be delivered in a variety of formats to suit the needs of the receiving EMR. One practice, whose system could not accept results electronically, receives their results in a document format and uses a simple "drag-and-drop" to move results into the patient chart. Another practice receives their results as discreet data, allowing the EMR to place results directly into the patient's chart with no manual intervention. Two additional EMRs are being added to the Grid and Novo is providing all required integration expertise, making it easy for NGHS to connect to a variety of physician systems.
