National Association of Community Health Centers Honors Roche

Posted on: Tuesday, 29 August 2006, 18:00 CDT

CHICAGO, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) honored Roche with The John Holloman, MD Award for Leadership in Community Health at its Annual Convention and Community Health Institute. This award is given in recognition of the outstanding contributions Roche has made in advancing resources and solutions for community health.

Over the years, Roche has contributed nearly $1.5 million in support of community-based health care initiatives and activities across the country. Roche has sponsored NACHC's Annual Convention as well as National Health Center Week events nationwide.

In addition, Roche provides continued, unrestricted support for the innovative NACHC Hepatitis C (HCV) Initiative, a clinical training and education program that promises vast benefits in the treatment of hepatitis C for health center patients infected with the disease.

The initiative that launched in July 2005 has already identified over 800 new cases of hepatitis C in six health centers across the country. Patients that otherwise may not have been successfully treated for the potentially life-threatening disease, are realizing the hope of recovery as the treatment and continuum of care are kept at their primary care medical home.

"NACHC is exceptionally grateful to Roche for helping to nurture the vision of affordable and accessible health care for all people," said Tom Van Coverden, President and CEO of NACHC.

The John Holloman, MD Award for Leadership in Community Health honors the legacy and contributions of John Holloman, MD, a medical director for over 20 years at the William F. Ryan Community Health Center in New York. Dr. Holloman was a visionary and compelling force in his persistent efforts to improve the delivery of health care and build a stronger primary care infrastructure for the nation. The model of health care that he helped mold and shape continues to generate acclaim for its quality and effectiveness in today's health environment.
