Nursing2006 Invites Nurses to Participate in Infection Control Survey
Posted on: Tuesday, 29 August 2006, 18:00 CDT
Nursing2006, the world's largest direct paid-circulation professional nursing journal, is inviting nurses to participate in a survey about infection control practices. The survey is available online at www.Nursing2006.com; a printed version also appears in the August and September issues of Nursing2006. The results of the survey will be published in an upcoming issue. Nursing2006 is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, part of Wolters Kluwer Health.
Infection prevention and control are high on patient, nurse, and decision maker agendas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that in hospitals alone, there are 2 million health care-associated infections causing 90,000 deaths, and costing $4.5 billion in excess health care costs annually.(1)
"Preventing infectious disease is a national priority - and nurses are on the front lines," says Cheryl Mee, RN,BC, CMSRN, MSN, editor-in-chief of the journal. "We hope this survey will help shed light on both the challenges of infection control and best practices for prevention, and will help hospital staff to address this important issue. Just as the results of previous Nursing2006 surveys have been used by hospital administrators, managers, and staff-development educators to evaluate their facilities' clinical management and to assess knowledge gaps and teaching needs, we expect the results of the new infection control survey to provide insight and support improvements as well."
The survey is supported by an educational grant from B. Braun Medical Inc. a global leader in innovative healthcare products and services. Survey responses will be accepted until 9-30-2006.
