W Communications Wins Federal Marketing Contract; Utah Advertising Agency to Implement National Anti-Anabolic Steroid Campaign

W Communications, a Salt Lake City-based advertising agency, has been selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) agency to develop a national marketing and outreach campaign designed to raise awareness regarding the dangers of anabolic steroid use among high school students.
The marketing campaign consists of the creation of a video and brochure, as well as the development of program partnerships with professional sports organizations and elected officials. W Communications will also conduct a ten-city outreach tour across the country where high school students will attend a presentation regarding the dangers of anabolic steroid use, receive informational materials, and hear professional athletes and others tell their own stories regarding the negative effects of anabolic steroids. The marketing materials will specifically target teenage athletes, both boys and girls, who turn to steroids at a young age in an attempt to gain muscle mass and to increase athletic performance and endurance.
Kelly Casaday, founding partner of W, stated, "We are extremely pleased that SAMHSA and HHS has placed this level of confidence in our abilities to deliver meaningful messages to the teenage audience. We look forward to working with them on this contract and to increasing awareness among high school athletes that anabolic steroids can have devastating and permanent consequences to their health."
Early this year, W Communications announced their official designation as a General Services Administration (GSA) preferred vendor, allowing them to procure federal government contracts for marketing, advertising and public relations services. W is the only Utah advertising agency to hold GSA certification, and is one of very few GSA-approved agencies in the Intermountain Region. The SAMHSA contract was awarded to W after an open bidding process involving agencies from across the nation.
