China Medical Technologies Participated in the 6th International Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasounds and Presented the Pre-IDE Animal Test Results for the HIFU Therapy System

China Medical Technologies, Inc. (the "Company") (NASDAQ:CMED), a leading China-based medical device company that develops, manufactures and markets high intensify focused ultrasound (HIFU) products and advanced in-vitro diagnostic systems, today announced that it participated in the 6th Symposium on Therapeutic Ultrasound (ISTU6), held at the Oxford University Examination Schools between Wednesday August 30, and Saturday September 2, 2006.

The ISTU6 was organized by the International Society of Therapeutic Ultrasound, a leading association for the therapeutic ultrasound technology. The ISTU6 attracted hundreds of scientists and practitioners from all over the world. Physicians and scientists from China and the United States presented three papers on the recent development of China Medical's HIFU therapy system.

Dr. Liulin Xiong from Beijing University People's Hospital presented a clinical study reporting on 62 pancreatic cancer patients treated in China. Dr. Xiong's paper showed that the local effective control rate was 71.7% and pain palliation rate was 87% using China Medical's HIFU therapy system.

Dr. Joo Ha Hwang, on behalf of the clinical study team from the Department of Medicine of the University of Washington, presented the pre-IDE animal test results during the conference. Dr. Hwang concluded that using China Medical HIFU therapy system to treat pancreas is feasible and safe, and lesion formation of coagulative necrosis and apoptosis can be observed following proper treatment protocol. The clinical study team intends to use the animal test results to apply for the Investigational Device Exemption for FDA clinical studies.
