Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Adults: Advances and Challenges

Posted on: Friday, 8 September 2006, 15:00 CDT

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Each year in the United States, 4,000 adults are diagnosed with ALL and 1,500 die. ALL has a dire prognosis in adults, with a 2-year survival rate of 35%-40%, despite aggressive therapy. Hematology and oncology clinicians who treat adults must maintain an up-to-date critical understanding of the many variables that affect the management of ALL, including risk assessment, clinical features, disease genetics, patient pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenetics, treatment-related toxicity, transplant options, new treatments and clinical trials. Recent studies indicate improvements in many of these areas; however, little guidance is provided regarding how to incorporate these advances into clinical practice.

Robert Michael Educational Institute LLC is offering a series of continuing education programs to physicians, pharmacists and registered nurses who treat adults with ALL. This series is cosponsored by Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and is supported by an educational grant from Enzon Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Faculty chairperson for the series is internationally recognized cancer research expert, Jacob M. Rowe, MD, Director of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Rambam Medical Center Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Hafia, Israel. Other faculty presenters include Frederick R. Applebaum, MD; W. Archie Bleyer, MD; and Martin S. Tallman, MD.

Live meetings will be held in 14 locations across the country. Visit http://www.rmei.com/ALL to view the dates and cities most convenient for you. Upcoming events include the following:

* September 25, Rene Pujol Restaurant, New York City * September 26, LaFamiglia Ristorante, Philadelphia * September 27, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Baltimore There is no fee for this educational activity.

Registration is required, as space is limited. To reserve your place, call toll free to 877-547-5642, ext. 330 or visit http://www.rmei.com/ALL.
