Language Access Network Announces New Contract With Mercy Hospital Miami

Language Access Network, LLC (PINKSHEETS: LANW) today announced a new service contract with Mercy Hospital, Inc. of Miami, Florida to provide live video interpretation services in the hospital's Emergency Department and in inpatient facilities. The service, projected to begin October 15th, will allow Mercy Hospital's medical professionals to connect to live interpreters in over 150 languages including American Sign Language (ASL) 24 hours a day.

"Through Language Access Network's interpretation service, our medical staff will be able to treat limited English proficient patients in a faster, culturally sensitive and cost effective manner," said Francis Richardson, RN, MHSA, Vice President of Acute Inpatient Services.

"Our team of medical interpreters will help Mercy Hospital meet the needs of a growing limited English proficient and Deaf and hard-of-hearing population in Florida," stated Michael Guirlinger, CEO/COO of Language Access Network. Our goal in the next 30 days is to meet with hospitals in Naples, Orlando, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Jacksonville, and Ft. Myers."

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Florida has the fourth largest limited English proficient population with over 1.5 million people who speak English less than very well. According to a recent New York Times article at least 25 percent of the population is foreign born as a percentage of the total population and Florida continues to be among the states with the largest change in foreign born population in the U.S.
