Twins Return Home After Separation

Two North Salt Lake, Utah, girls have been released from the hospital after an 86-day stay related to the separation of the formerly conjoined twins.
Kendra and Maliyah Herrin were released from Primary Children's Medical Center Sunday after an Aug. 7 surgery separated the 4-year-old girls, who had shared a pelvis and abdominal organs, the Salt Lake Tribune reported Monday. Both girls now have only one leg.
Maliyah is scheduled to begin kidney dialysis as an outpatient Monday. The single kidney shared by the twins had been Kendra's, and doctors said Maliyah is not yet ready for a transplant, the Salt Lake City Deseret Morning News reported. Maliyah will also require a feeding tube for the time being, as she has no appetite, and both girls will require medications fed to them through IV tubes.
This is the day we've been waiting for the last four, five years, said Jake Herrin, the girls' father. To have them separate and safe. It's going to be a lot of work at home, but we're up for it.
