The Christie School Announces Strategy to Reach More Children and Families Facing Mental Health Challenges; New Name, Organizational Vision, Part of Today's Announcements

The Christie School, one of the oldest continuously operating children's agencies in Oregon, announced its new organizational vision to reach more Oregon and Northwest children and families facing mental health challenges in an event on its Marylhurst campus today.
Included in the announcements was that the organization will change its name to ChristieCare.
As part of its new organizational vision, ChristieCare is expanding its services to reach children and families beyond residential treatment with programs such as Therapeutic Foster Care and Intensive In-home Support & Stabilization. The new services are consistent with the agency's treatment philosophy, which teaches recovery and change by experience rather than office-based treatment.
According to the National Mental Health Association, one in five children has a diagnosable mental, emotional or behavior disorder. In addition, the Oregon Department of Human Services has found that the annual number of child abuse and neglect reports in the state has risen to more than 50,000.
"The changes taking place within Oregon's system of care for children -- coupled with ChristieCare's strategy to reach more children and families than ever before -- led to a reinvention of ourselves," said Lynne Saxton, executive director of ChristieCare. "We are excited to be announcing the changes and sharing our vision for the future of Oregon's children and families."
ChristieCare is nearing its 150th anniversary of serving children and families in crisis. Originally established as an orphanage, the agency later shifted its focus to psychiatric residential treatment for children with severe emotional and mental health challenges, gaining national recognition for its work.
