Power3 Medical Products Files Utility Patent Application on Discovery That Distinguishes Between Parkinson's and ALS; New Power3 Study Reveals Serum Biomarkers for Early ID of Parkinson's and ALS

Power3 Medical Products, Inc. (OTC: PWRM), announced today that it has filed for a utility patent that encompasses multiple blood serum protein biomarkers useful in distinguishing patients with Parkinson's disease and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Power3 (www.Power3Medical.com) is a leading proteomics company that develops proteomic testing and biomarker discovery for early detection, monitoring and staging of diseases including breast cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS.
"The biomarkers discovered by Power3 and described in the application for a utility patent will form the basis of a blood test for early detection and diagnosis, as well as be used to monitor the overall disease process in patients," said Steven B. Rash, the company's chairman and CEO.
"Power3's proprietary protein discovery technologies apply directly to specific medical problems that continue to challenge physicians and patients worldwide," said Mr. Rash. "The biomarkers we have discovered create and present significant and novel opportunities for drug targeting and monitoring therapeutic interventions."
Mr. Rash said that the patent application adds to Power3's portfolio of intellectual properties, which currently includes 18 patents pending.
"This IP can be licensed to pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic test manufacturers for the development of commercial applications, making Power3 even more attractive to strategic partners in the diagnostic and pharmaceutical arena," he said. The findings in the application have been published, he said, in two peer-reviewed scientific journals -- Expert Review of Proteomics and Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications -- and presented earlier this year at the Experimental Biology International Conference.
Other major scientific announcements by Power3 in recent weeks include, "Power3's Biomarkers 'Show Great Promise' for Alzheimer's Diagnostics and Therapeutics" (Business Wire, August 30) and "Power3 Identifies Early-Detection Biomarkers for Parkinson's Disease" (Business Wire, September 6).
