ORLive Presents: Total Knee Replacement Surgery Incorporates the Latest Technologies and Minimally Invasive Techniques Resulting in Less Pain
Posted on: Thursday, 21 September 2006, 15:01 CDT
On Wednesday, October 18, at 6:30PM Central Daylight Time, the Duluth Clinic and St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN will present a live webcast on www.OR-Live.com of a total knee replacement procedure. Duluth Clinic Orthopaedic Surgeon Bradley Edgerton, MD, will be performing the knee replacement. His colleagues, Duluth Clinic Orthopaedic Surgeons Tom Patnoe, MD, and Jeff Klassen, MD, will serve as co-moderators. Wendy Lane, Joint Replacement Nurse Clinician will help describe the procedure and what patients can expect both preoperatively and in rehabilitation.
"With baby boomers maintaining a more active lifestyle as they age, knee replacement surgeries are becoming more and more common," Dr. Patnoe says. "This will offer patients a rare opportunity to get a first-hand look at the procedure." Joint replacements at St. Mary's incorporate the latest technologies and minimally invasive techniques. These advancements result in less post-operative pain and shorter recovery times.
The operation that will be broadcast is only a portion of the comprehensive care offered to patients needing this type of procedure. They benefit from the many facets of the Joint Replacement Program at the Duluth Clinic, also a part of SMDC Health System. That care extends from a patient's first surgical consultation all the way through rehabilitation.
The Joint Replacement Program incorporates the latest technologies and minimally invasive techniques, which can result in less post-operative pain and shorter recovery times. Along with knee and hip procedures, the board certified surgeons in this program also replace many other joints, including shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers and ankles.
"We're excited to have a new way to educate the public about knee replacement surgery and other procedures," says Thurza Bender, Duluth Clinic Vice President of Surgical Services. "We hope they tune in to our first-ever live webcast."
Prospective knee replacement patients, interested physicians and the general public will find this live interactive webcast both educational and stimulating as Doctors answer emailed questions from viewers.
