eBags.Com Raises Breast Cancer Awareness Year-Round With Pick Pink Program
Posted on: Wednesday, 27 September 2006, 06:00 CDT
DENVER, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- This year alone, the American Cancer Society estimates that 214,640 unique cases of breast cancer will occur in the United States. Within the year, over 40,000 will die from the disease. Yet, The National Cancer Institute has announced that breast cancer rates had begun to stabilize in 2001, and even appear to trend toward decline in recent years. Undoubtedly, increased awareness of early detection, treatment opportunities, and research possibilities have affected this trend. Therefore, support for those institutions leading the charge against eradicating breast cancer has become more important than ever.
In an effort to eradicate this disease, eBags.com partnered with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in 2004 through its Pick Pink Program. Through eBags.com, customers can shop the Pick Pink boutique, which contains over 900 pink products. For each item purchased, 10% of the retail price is donated to the Komen Foundation. To date, eBags.com has donated over $400,000 to the Komen Foundation.
Hundreds of pink products are available on eBags.com -- everything from handbags to laptop cases to TSA approved luggage locks. Brands such as JanSport, Samsonite, Donald J Pliner, Mobile Edge, and Nike feature pink versions of their products on the site. Additionally, eBags' own collection of 14 Pick Pink products, including backpacks, business cases, and travel accessories are among the top sellers in the program.
"70% of our customers are women," states Peter Cobb, Co-founder of eBags.com. "Supporting this cause is extremely important to our company. We want our customers to know that we support them, support their communities, and support their well-being. Breast cancer awareness, education and treatment is near and dear to our hearts." In addition to products, http://www.ebags.com/pickpink also features several informational links on breast cancer. Breast self-examination (BSE) instructions, a fact sheet, and a tutorial on the anatomy of breast cancer combine to create an informative center, while a link to The Komen Foundation's message boards encourages community and discussion.
