Cancer Gene Therapy Focus of Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy 5th Anniversary Dinner

WHO: Gene therapy used to treat cancer has been a hot topic recently. The Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), a unique non-profit organization dedicated to funding medical research in the area of gene therapy, has provided more than $14 million in research grants and is hosting its fifth anniversary dinner on Thursday, September 28, in Greenwich, Conn. Top cancer researchers from throughout the U.S. will be in attendance at this important event as well as representatives from major healthcare corporations such as Johnson & Johnson, EMD Lexigen, Merck KGaA, Genetech, ImClone and Introgen. Dr. Judah Folkman, Director of Vascular Biology in the Department of Surgery at Children's Hospital and Professor of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, is being recognized for his discovery and visionary leadership in the field of angiogenesis, the process of which new blood vessels grow. Dr. John I. Gallin, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md., and Associate Director for Clinical Research at the NIH, will introduce Dr. Folkman.
