New Book for Children With Hemophilia Presented By Blood Diagnostics, Inc.

Posted on: Thursday, 28 September 2006, 15:01 CDT

"'Curtis and Jerry on Mount Omega' offers children a fun, affirming look at two friends who learn that a bleeding disorder can't keep them down," says Celynd Scaglione, author of the new book for children about hemophilia which is being sponsored by Blood Diagnostics, Inc. "I noticed many good educational resources about hemophilia were geared toward adults. I wanted to provide an additional avenue for children to learn about hemophilia and how it impacts their lives."

The story is about Curtis, a panda bear with hemophilia, and his best panda friend Jerry. On a hiking trip with their fathers, Curtis and Jerry learn about fitness, communication and honesty. "I thoroughly enjoyed the story," said children's book author Ashley Faison. "The characters are very likeable."

"You can never have too much information," says Kristin Prior, whose son has hemophilia. She and other parents of children with bleeding disorders generously offered invaluable insights and advice as the book was being developed. The book opens communication lines between parents and their children by providing an age appropriate explanation that can be understood even by children who do not have a bleeding disorder.

"It is so gratifying to work for a company committed to giving back something of real value," Ms. Scaglione says of Blood Diagnostics. "Their contributions to the industry consistently show the company's dedication to the bleeding disorders community."

"The publication of 'Curtis and Jerry on Mount Omega' embodies the very spirit of Blood Diagnostics itself," said Rich Gaton, president and co-founder of Blood Diagnostics. "Celynd Scaglione's dedication to this effort is representative of the passion which all of us at Blood Diagnostics share for the hemophilia community."
