Baptist Health South Florida, a 'Most Wired' Healthcare Network, Chooses CliniComp Essentris(TM) Perinatal Solution

CliniComp, Intl., a leading provider of clinical information solutions, today announced that Baptist Health South Florida has selected the Essentris(TM) Perinatal information system for three of its hospital facilities. In July, for the sixth year since 1999, Hospitals and Health Networks ranked Baptist as one of the nation's "Most Wired" healthcare networks.
Essentris Perinatal, built on Reliance 247, CliniComp's always-available architecture, spans the entire perinatal continuum, from prenatal through post partum. "We wanted a comprehensive computer application for our expectant mothers from the moment they registered in the hospital," says Valerie Marquez, corporate director of information technology for Baptist, which is the largest not-for-profit healthcare organization in the region. Essentris will be a key component of Baptist Health's electronic health record.
Baptist Health began implementing Essentris fetal surveillance and monitoring at South Miami Hospital (South Miami, Fla.) last month. After that, fetal surveillance and clinical documentation implementations will follow at the new Homestead Hospital (Homestead, Fla.), which is scheduled to open this spring, and later at Baptist Children's Hospital in Miami. All told, 300 to 400 nurses and physicians at the three facilities will use the system. Many of these professionals helped review Essentris during the selection process.
"Compared with other systems we looked at, our staff felt that CliniComp's solution was highly functional and the easiest to work with," Marquez notes, "and its documentation abilities will help us achieve best practices. For now, all our nursing documentation in obstetrics and delivery is manual. The new system will not only improve the legibility of the record but also let us store it permanently and securely, as well as make the record available instantaneously on a computer screen to any nurse or physician who needs to see it."
CliniComp's web-enabled application allows physicians and nurses to view the patient's chart from their practice offices, which are not located on hospital grounds, or wherever they have web access. "This feature will allow online consults with the patient's doctor while he or she is viewing the record in real time," Marquez says. "That will be a valuable, time-saving tool that can be especially helpful in emergency situations."
"As a recognized technology leader," comments Carl Witonsky, vice chairman of CliniComp, "Baptist Health applies the most stringent quality and efficacy requirements when choosing a vendor. We are proud to be selected by such a forward thinking organization."
